I filed this one under Events because it truly was a major event in my life — and hers too. Little did I know that one random message sent to me on the online dating site, OkCupid would change everything.
After restoring my OkCupid account for just this purpose, I was able to go back and recover our entire conversation on the site so I can re-post it here for safe keeping.
How it all began
Christina – “Hello ! :)”
Brandon – “Hi there…what’s your name? I’m Brandon.”
Christina – “I’m Christina, nice to meet you”
Christina – “I noticed you like I Love Lucy? I thought I was the only one ! Haha”
Brandon – “Nice to meet you too! Haha…you shouldn’t be the only one…that’s one of the best shows ever!
Christina – “It really is… I love it’s so old yet the humor is still up to date. Classic show!”
Christina – “Humor doesn’t always carry over through the years… Ever notice how some of the 90s movies just aren’t as funny as they used to be? If at all? Haha”
Brandon – “That’s a true sign of brilliance! It’s kind of like how my jokes from the 3rd grade are still funny today! So how’s your experience been on this site?”
Brandon – “Yes I agree with that! I’ve watched a few older movies on Netflix recently and I can’t understand why I thought they were so awesome back then…maybe being young has something to do with it too.”
Christina – “Hahaha wow what jokes from 3rd grade? That’s awesome”
Christina – “Umm well I decided to join because I work close to 60 hours a week and though I go out occasionally, the bar scene is pretty lame for finding someone worth talking to the next day.. So far it’s just been fun being able to chat without guys being blubbering drunk in my face haha”
Christina – “What about you ?”
Brandon – “Haha…same for me really. I don’t work as much as you, but the bar scene has gotten pretty lame lately. I think it’s mostly because I keep getting older and they keep staying the same age. There’s that and then there’s the fact that more and more of my friends are getting married and having families, so going “out” out is starting to become a luxury.”
Christina – “What a true statement. I feel like I missed the memo that 27 is the age to settle down, but it’s all good ! To each his own haha”
Brandon – “Agreed! It’s so much nicer to be able to live life at your own pace and not on everyone else’s clock. So where do you like to hang out and what do you like to do for fun?”
Brandon – “Oh and sorry if this is too forward, but I’m going out for a bit so if you wanted to still chat, here’s my cell: (XXX) XXX-XXXX 🙂 Otherwise, I’ll ttyl.”
Christina – “I think that would be fun 🙂 text me if you’re free XXX-XXX-XXXX”
Throughout many years of on and off dating online, I’ve learned quite a bit. By the time we met, I was under the impression that if a girl messaged me first, we were more likely to get along, whether I was attracted to her or not.
After Christina called me out for being a fan of I Love Lucy, I knew we would get along just fine. Right after this conversation, we launched into full-blown text/phone conversations and it has been almost non-stop since then!
